1 held with counterfeit notes
Detective Branch (DB) of Police of Chittagong District in a drive arrested a person with counterfeit notes worth Tk 1, 00,000 in Sarkarhat area under Hathazari Upazila of the district on Wednesday at around 9:55pm. The arrestee was identified as Mohammad Younus alias Elias, 28, son of Abdul Baten, hailing from Bhuzpur area of the district. Acting on tip-off a team of DB police led by Sub-inspector Shahadat nabbed Elias from Sarkarhat area and seized counterfeit notes.  All of the seized counterfeit notes were Tk1, 000 denominations. Sub-inspector Shahadat told The Independent that the arrestee confessed in primary interrogation that he had been running business of fake notes for a long time.   

Bicyclist crushed under train
RAJSHAHI: A bicyclist was killed as he was crushed under the wheels of speeding train in front of Dinghadoba Mission Road intersection in the city on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Taiful Islam, 55, son of Erfan Ali, a resident of Court Mollapara area under Rajpara thana of the city. Family sources said the Rangpur-bound intercity commuter train hit the bicycle the man was riding while he was crossing the road in the area around 3.15pm, leaving him critically injured. Later he was rushed to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where he died around 6pm.

3 medicine  shops fined in Ctg

Mobile court yesterday fined three medicine shops Tk 21,000 for stocking date-expired medicines, selling doctor’s sample and making herbal medicine in unhygienic environment in the city. The court, led by administrative magistrate and deputy revenue collector Ruhul Amin in Masterpole area of Bakalia and Kadam Mubarak area of Kowtali area. “We have fined Tk15, 000 to Janapriya Osudhalaya for making herbal medicine in an unhygienic environment, Tk 5,000 fined to Janasheba Pharmacy for selling doctor’s sample and date expired medicine and fined Tk1, 000 to another pharmacy of Kadam Mubarak area.,” said the magistrate. The magistrate also said that their drive will be continued.

BARISAL: Detective Branch (DB) of police in a drive arrested a youth along with 520 pieces of yaba tablets from KDC Coastal Baraffal area of the city Wednesday night.
