Bangladesh seeks $250m from WB for Rohingyas

The government has sought 250 million dollar from the World Bank to provide health services to the Rohingyas who fled to Bangladesh amid persecution in Myanmar's in Rakhain State, reports UNB.

Bangladesh will succeed in helping the Rohingya people as it had overcome other crisis moments in the past, said State Minister for Health Zahid Malik told reporters after a meeting on Bangladesh's preparedness and World Bank's assistance in disaster and epidemic management at the secretariat.

The government is taking necessary steps to face disasters through creating skilled manpower, setting up advanced laboratories, developing communication, strengthening monitoring and upgradation nof machineries, he said.

"Bangladesh is among the 75 countries that the WB listed to provide support in facing disasters and epidemics," he said.

Bangladesh's plea for helping the Rohingyas will be considered vigorously assured Mukesh Chawla, Head of Knowledge Management of theHuman Development Network (HDN) of World Bank.
