A 15-member National Committee for Monitoring and Implementation of Doing Business Reforms (NCMID) has been formed to improve the country’s overall business environment, reports BSS.
Cabinet secretary is the chair of the committee and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) will act as its secretariat. A gazette was published on September 21 in this regard, said a BIDA media release.
BIDA has been implementing different reform programmes to secure 99th place in ‘ease of doing business’ index of the World Bank. Bangladesh now ranks 176th out of 190 countries.
Talking to the news agency, BIDA Executive Chairman Kazi M Aminul Islam said Bangla-desh will have to improve its overall business environment for achieving its target of becoming a middle income country by 2021.
“NCMID has been formed to improve the overall business environment . . . we have to encourage more local and foreign investments and for this reason we have to business friendly environment,” said Islam. He said the NCMID will work to remove barriers to implementation of the short, medium and long term programmes taken in line with the doing business memorandum 2017.
