Forge social movement to resist human rights violation

BSS

RAJSHAHI: Speakers at an opinion sharing meeting have unequivocally called for forging social resistance against all sorts of human rights violation, reports BSS. They also strongly condemned the gradually rising of repression on children in the country. They viewed all of us should feel about significance of human rights in the society and work together for its enforcement as there’s no alternative to containing the frequent human rights violation to ensure people’s welfare.
The observations came at a discussion titled “Present Human Rights Situation: Our Responsibility” held at the conference hall of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry here yesterday.
Human Rights Defenders Forum (HRDF) organised the discussion in association with Ain-o-Shalish Kendra (ASK) and Barendra Unnayan Prochesta (BUP) aims at inspiring members of the civil society, young generation and others concerned towards working in this field. Advocate Sultana Kamal, Executive Director of ASK, addressed the discussion as the focal person with Prof Nural Alam, former Chairman of Rajshahi Education Board, in the chair.
Among others, senior journalist Mustafizur Rahman Khan, former deputy director of department of social service Mozammel Haque, Prof ANM Naser from the Department of Law of Rajshahi University, Divisional Coordinator of Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association Advocate Dil Sitara Chuni, BUP Director and HRDF Member-Secretary Foyzullah Chowdhury, human rights activists Afzal Hossain and Saiduzzaman Sipon also spoke on the occasion.
Advocate Sultana Kamal said, “I am disheartened and angry over this kind of barbaric murder of Rajan and Rakib. We have reached such a stage where Rajan was beaten to death before the eyes of everyone while the people were laughing but not protesting.”
She said, “Low-income family’s child Rajan was killed on a trivial accusation”. Sultana Kamal viewed that establishing transparency and accountability in every spheres of life including politics and civic-service sector could be the effective means of ensuring human rights to all.
She also said the rate of human rights violation has gradually been increasing in the society due to various reasons like corruption, poverty and illiteracy. But, the human rights situation should be improved collectively and the young generation can play vital role in this regard.
