Bangladesh moved into the semifinal of the ongoing SAFF Under-16 Football Championship as  Group A champions defeating India by 2-1 at Sylhet Stadium yesterday.
In this closely contested match, captain Mohammed Shawon and Atiquzzaman scored one goal each for Bangladesh and Rahim Ali reduced one for India.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith, who witnessed the match as chief guest, instant after winning the match announced a cash reward of Taka five lakh to Bangladesh team.
Bangladesh boys, who demonstrated some impressive performance in the most of the first half, took the lead through Shawon on half an hour mark.
It was a very organised move down the left side with Mostafiz released a cross inside the area and Shawon nicely controlled the ball before blasting a left footer into far post on 31st minute (1-0).
After taking lead Bangladesh looked more hostile to increase the tally and put the Indians under pressure and also had some good occasions to increase the tally but due to poor finishing work had to go for break with 1-0 lead.
Inside four minutes of  resumption of play in the second half, India equalised the margin through Rahim Ali.
Rahim Ali, an intelligent forward, after receiving a long ball beat Bangladesh defenders and entered into box and superbly sent the ball into net over an advancing Bangladesh keeper Faisal on 49th (1-1).
After drawing level, Indians displayed some disciplined football to keep the command for more than 20 minutes and also closer to take lead but were unfortunate, as the forwards failed to mark the targets from easy chances.
But the Bangladesh youngsters bounced back and restored the match control and also squeezed opponents with tremendous pressure. Specially, Bangladesh fabricated most of the attacks down the left side and could regain lead as they created two successive chances but Shawon and Sajib spoiled those chances sending the ball off the mark.
But the young booters of Bangladesh did not lose their spirit and put India into immense pressure and Indian defender made a bad tackle inside the area to Bangladesh forward Sarwar Zaman Nipu and referee directed for a penalty.
Atiquzzaman converted the spot kick with an excellent right footer giving no chance to Indian keeper on 84th minute (2-1).
Bangladesh will play their semifinal match against the runners of Group B, which will be decided after the match between Nepal and Afghanistan today.
