JMB member’s wife arrested

Natore: Police arrested the wife of an absconding member of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Bonpara area in Boraigram upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.

The arrestee was identified as Kohinur Akhter Koli, wife of JMB member Masud Rana.

Police said that on secret information they raided a bus and arrested Koli.

Later, she was shown arrested in a case filed over the recovery of arms and explosives from Chandpur area in Sadar upazila in January and produced to the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Rabiul Islam.

Govt allocates over Tk 2 cr for Nilphamari farmers

NILPHAMARI: The government has allocated over Taka 2.2 crore as incentive grants for small and marginal farmers of the district for cultivating five varieties of crops during the upcoming Robi season, reports BSS.

Assistant Deputy Director of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Keramot Ali said 14,748 farmers will get the incentive for the cultivation.

Of the total, 1,500 farmers will get Taka over 11.63 lakh for cultivating mustard on 1,500 bighas of land, 6,000 farmers will get Taka 98.70 lakh for cultivating wheat on 6,000 bighas of land, and 6,500 farmers will get Taka 84.63 lakh for cultivating maize on 6,500 bighas of land.

Besides, 48 farmers will get Taka 39,120 for cultivating brinjal on 48 bighas of land and 700 farmers will get Taka over 6.98 lakh for cultivating mugdul on 700 bighas of land.

Youth die from snakebite

A youth died from snakebite at Sathkamar village in Boda upazila of Panchagarh district yesterday morning.

The victim was identified as Jamil Akter, 28, son of Jalal Uddin of the same area.

Police and family sources said a poisonous snake bit Jamil while he was taking a cow to a field near his house.

After the incident he came back home and after sometime he died.

Two arrested with phensidyl

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh arrested two suspected drug peddlers along with 150 bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup at Teroghor border point in Sharsha upazila on Saturday morning.

Tipped off that Zia, 35, son of Matiar Rahman and Ariful, 36, son of Shaheb Ali, resident son of Daulatpur village in Sharsha upazila, were smuggling phensidyl syrup from India, a BGB team conducted a drive at Teroghor border point around 9am.

During the drive, the BGB personnel arrested the duo along with 150 bottles of the contraband syrup, said Manjurul Islam, Daulatpur camp commander of 21 BGB.

Zia and Ariful have been engaged with human trafficking for a long time, said BGB sources, adding both the arrestees were handed over to Sharsha Police Station.

Carpenter electrocuted

Sherpur: A carpenter died from electrocution in Nabinagar area of the district town yesterday morning, reports U&NB.

Witnesses said Jahurul Islam, 34, son of Abdul Halim Mistri, a resident of Nabinagar Gairal Bari area, was going to a paddy field adjacent to his house for collecting feed for his cattle.

However, Jahurul got electrocuted when he touched an iron pillar which was directly connected with live electric wire around 8:00 am and died on the spot, said officer-in-charge of Sherpur Sadar Police Station M Nazrul Islam.
