Rangs Group, a leading business corporation in Bangladesh, on Friday officially inaugurated the automotive vehicle assembly plant collaboratively with Indian multinational car manufacturing giant Mahindra and Mahindra (M and M) Ltd in Sonargaon to meet the increasing demand of the country’s local market.
The facility sprawling about 40 acre of land will initially assemble the Pick-Up and Human Haulers, which are sourced as completely knocked down (CKD) kits from Indian multinational car manufacturing giant Mahindra and Mahindra (M and M) Ltd manufacturing plant.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader inaugurated the assembling plant—first of its kind in the country located at Sonakhali under Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj district.
Addressing the plants of Rangs Group, Obaidul Quader said, “Today is a big moment for both Rangs and Mahindra group. The inception of this vehicle assembly plant in the country is a milestone for us”.
“I hope that the vehicles assembled from this plant will be high in quality and sustainable as well” he added.
Managing Director of Rangs Motors, Sohana Rouf Chowdhury said that the space of the assembly processing plant is about 48,000 sqaure feet and 40 acres of land extending other facilities.
“We are hoping that within two years of time the entire plant will be completed” she said.
She also said, “As part of the process, this facility is set up to meet the increasing demand for the vehicles in the country and will strengthen the Bangladesh economy”
“We are also excited about the prospect of 500 job opportunities in the plant and the customers will get quality vehicles and efficient services from us in lower prices compared to others” she added.
Managing Director of Rangs Motors said two types of vehicles such as—Mahindra branded Pick-Up and Human Hauler will initially assemble in this plant and different types of
vehicles of different brands will gradually assemble
afterwards.
Sohana Rouf also explained that “The customer will get the vehicle at 10-15 per cent reduced cost as the plant will help decrease import cost of vehicle. With this local assembly unit we will now be able to deliver products in reduced time and at more affordable prices”
Chief of International Operations, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd Arvind Mathew said, “With its advanced technological processes, large-scale assembly set up and eco-friendly focus, this new facility will not only add to industrial growth in the country, but will also generate significant employment opportunities for local residents.”
Rangs Motors Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dileep Banerjee said “Rangs new CKD plant has been equipped with all types of modern facilities and cutting edge technology.”
“The plant has the capacity to produce more than 2,000 vehicles per year. It is a great time to be expanding our operation due to the growing demand for vehicles,” he added.
