Boat capsizes with 30 passengers

GAZIPUR: A boat carrying at least 30 passengers on board capsized in the Turag River in Tongi on Saturday night, reports UNB.

Witnesses said the boat capsized adjacent to Mautar Ghat while heading towards Pagar around 8:30 pm.

On information, diving team of the Fire Service and Civil Defense reached on the spot and started the rescue operation, said Khan Ehsanul Alam, station officer of Tongi Fire Service.  

However, the divers called off the operation at 10:30 pm as they did not find anyone in the river, said Ehsanul adding all the passengers managed to swim ashore after the incident.
