NARAYANGANJ: A man was allegedly hacked to death by his drug addicted younger bother in Dakkhin Nayamati area in Narayanganj Sadar upazila on Saturday night, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Liton Khan, 33, a son Barek Khan, hailing from Korati village of Madaripur district.
Liton used to live in a rented house in Dakkhin Nayamatir area with his three brothers, a sister and parents.
Kamal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Fatullah Model Police Station, said Hridoy Khan, younger brother of victim Liton, used to take money forcibly from the family members to take drugs.
On Friday night, Hridoy confined his mother in a room demanding money for taking drugs around 9:30pm.
Hearing the incident, Liton came to the house to rescue his mother and subsequently locked into an altercation with Hridoy.
On a stage, Hridoy hacked his elder brother with a knife, leaving him critically injured. Later local people rescued Liton and sent him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him death. The locals also caught Hriday and handed him over to the police, the OC added.
