Former national football team’s goalkeeper Motaleb Hossain died of cardiac arrest yesterday at his residence in the capital.
Motaleb, who was 67, survived by his wife, a son and a daughter and hosts of well wishers.
Motaleb, who was one of the prominent players of 70-80s, started his career in favour of played for Rahmatganj MFS also played for Abahani Limited and Mohammedan Sporting Club.
Though a goalkeeper, Motaleb had also an extraordinary caliber, as being a keeper he scored so many goals when he took penalty kick very often.
Motaleb was one of the proud members of the Abahani team when the Sky-Blue won the championship in the premier league football in 1981, 83 and 84.
Motaleb had the best time in his career when he led the Bangladesh national team in the Delhi Asiad in 1982 when Bangladesh defeated Malaysia by 2-1, the first win for Bangladesh in any Asian Games. In the 80s Shanto and Motaleb were the two best goalkeepers in the country, as he would be considered among the top three goalkeepers in the country.
Kazi Mohammed Salahuddin, president of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) and its executives, Abahani Limited expressed their condolence at the death of Motaleb and expressed their sympathy to the members of bereaved family of Motaleb.
The second Namaj-e-janaza was held at Abahani ground in the afternoon.
