Obaidul Quader for reviving DUCSU

Stressing the need for students union polls at the educational institutions, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday said Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) should be brought back to life to bring about a qualitative change in student politics at the university. BCL should speak out raising demand of introducing student unions at all the public universities and colleges across the country to accelerate democratic process, he said.
The minister urged the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) to uphold their image if they truly want eternal peace of the departed soul of the Father of the Nation.
“You (BCL men) need not worry about upholding the image of Bangabandhu through extensive speech, rather you should try to uphold your own image, and only then the departed soul of Bangabandhu will get eternal peace, ”  he said.
Obaidul Quader was addressing a discussion at TSC Auditorium of Dhaka University on the occasion of August 15: National Mourning Day to mark the 40th death anniversary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. DU unit of BCL organised the discussion.
Criticising BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia about her several midnight discussions with her party leaders, he alleged that the purpose of the meetings was only to hatch conspiracy against the country. “She (Kahleda) did not take part in January 5 elections and failing to launce any democratic movement yet she is now trying to hatch conspiracy against the country with the help of foreign forces,” he said, adding that AL always does politics with the country’s mass people but never with any foreign forces.
About the present situation of roads and transport in the country, the minister claimed that incidents of road accidents have reduced largely in the last 10 days for stopping movement of light vehicles on the 22 highways of the country following directive of the prime minister. “We have also started working on not to allow any unfit or illegal vehicles on the streets to avoid intolerable traffic jam,” he added.  With DU unit BCL president Abid Al Hasan in the chair, the discussion was also addressed, among others, by DU Vice Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique AL joint secretary Jhangir Kabir Nanok, former BCL president Sheikh Sohel Rana Tipu, central BCL president Saifur Rahman Sohag and general secretary SM Jakir Hossain.
DU unit BCL general secretary Motahar Hossen Prince conducted the discussion.
