Lightning strikes kill 8 in 2 dists

Eight people were killed and seven injured in three separate incidents of lightning strike in Dinajpur and Sunamganj districts yesterday, reports UNB. The deceased were identified as- labourers Muktirani, Banita Ray, Meser Ali, Shaku Uddin, Kushan Chandra Ray of Rajarampur village of Biral upazila, housewife Halima Begum of Chakrampur village of ChirirBandar in Dinajpur, Sujat Mia, 16, son of Tajud Mia of Ghifura village and farmer Abdul Ahad, 45, of Kamarkhal village of Jagannathpur upazila in Sunamganj.

In Dinajpur, a thunderbolt hit a group of labourers while they were taking rest in a hut around 2pm, leaving six of them dead on the spot and seven other injured. The injured were taken to a hospital.

Earlier, Halima Begum, wife of Shahidul Islam of Chakrampur village in Chirirbandar upazila, was killed as a thunderbolt hit her while trying to bring back her cows home around 3 am.
