Bangladesh to ignore Myanmar’s provocations

Says Obaidul Quader
STAFF REPORTER

Ruling Awami League general secretary and road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader yesterday said Bangladesh would not respond to any provocation by Myanmar. “Bangladesh would not respond to Myanmar’s instigations, including the violation of our airspace by their drones and helicopters. The Rohingya crisis is an international issue, so it should be solved internationally,” he said.

The AL general secretary said this while giving donations to sick and needy people at his village in Companyganj upazila of Noakhali yesterday morning.

Earlier, Bangladesh had protested repeated violation of its airspace by Myanmar drones and helicopters amid an influx of Rohingya refugees following their persecution in Rakhine state. The country also expressed its deep concern over such acts of provocation.

Criticising the BNP for trying to politicise the Rohingya issue, he said the party was talking incoherently in the absence of issues to pick on. “We will not express in any resentment at the criticisms from different quarters, including of our arch rival BNP. The Sheikh Hasina government has been tackling the Rohingya crisis very sincerely and cautiously,” he said. He said the BNP leaders had failed to understand her speech.
