10 youths rescued while being trafficked to India

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) rescued 10 young men from Gatipara border in Benapole Port Police Station while they were being trafficked to India on Friday night. They hail from different areas of Pirojpur and Bagerhat districts.

Subeder Manzur Rahman, company commander of Daulatpur camp of BGB-21 battalion, said that on secret information a team of BGB conducted a drive in the area at night and arrested the 10 youths who were heading to India in search of good job.

Sensing the presence of BGB men, the members of the human trafficking gang managed to flee the scene.

Later, BGB handed them over to Benapole Port Police Station. A case was filed.

Boat race held in Jamalpur

A boat race was held at Shyampur Amlitola ferry ghat in the river Brahmaputra in Melandaha upazila on Friday afternoon. State Minister for Textiles and Jute Mirza Azam witnessed the boat race and distributed prizes among the winners as chief guest. Additional Inspector General of Police (Admin and Operation) Mokhlesur Rahman inaugurated the boat race.

Addressing a function on the occasion, the state minister said the present government has been implementing a massive development programme across the country. He said the people are enjoying the benefits of the development programme. He called upon the people to reelect Awami League to continue the development works.

Naogaon road crash kills two

Naogaon: Two motorcyclists were killed and two others injured in a road accident at Barunkandi village on bypass road of the district town yesterday morning, reports UNB.

The deceased were identified as Masud Rana, 42, security guard of Jamuna Bank’s Naogaon branch of the village in Sadar upazila, and Sohel Rana, 30, son of Abdus Jabbar of Shibpur village of the upazila.

Toriqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said the accident took place when a bus crashed into a motorcycle coming from opposite direction around 9:45 am and plunged into a roadside ditch, leaving both of the motorcyclists dead on the spot and two others injured.

Villagers clash injures 15

Narail: At least 15 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers following a previous enmity at Jadunathpur village in Sadar upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.

Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Delwar Hossain Khan said Banshgram UP chairman Siraj and Riazul of the same union had a longstanding dispute over establishing supremacy in the area.

The incident ensued following an attack on Riazul’s house, beating up his family members and vandalism of the house yesterday morning by the supporters of the UP chairman. Later, supporters of Riazul vandalised 10 houses, including UP chairman’s house.

At least 15 people of both groups were injured in the incidents of attack and counter attack.

The injured were admitted to Narail Sadar Hospital.

5 return after serving jail in India

Five Bangladeshi teenage girls returned home through Benapole check post on Friday night after serving three years jail in an Indian jail.

Indian police handed the girls, hail from Barisal and Pirojpur districts, over to Benapole immigration police on completion of their jail term.

Omar Sharif, officer-in-charge of Benapole check post police immigration, said the five girls illegally entered India three and half years back without valid documents through Jessore border in search of good job.

Later, Indian police arrested them from Bangalore town.

An Indian court sentenced them to three years imprisonment each for illegally crossing the border and sent them to Bangalore Central Jail.
