GAIBANDHA: Rice under government’s Open Market Sale (OMS) programme is being sold to the poor here through five outlets from September 18 creating a positive impact on the local market, reports BSS.
Sources concerned said the OMS programme is aimed at helping the poor through arresting the price hike of rice.
A total of 5 sale centers have been set up in the district town where 5 tonnes of coarse rice is being sold every day.
Each of the consumers is allowed to purchase 5 kgs of rice from the center. The price of OMS rice has been fixed at TK 30 per kg, said M Alam Miah, a dealer of the food department.
Every day, many poor men and women are purchasing coarse rice from the outlets standing in long queues.
District Food Controller M Amzad Hossain said the programme would continue till the harvest of Aman paddy of the current season.
Monitoring and supervising of the programme by the concerned officials have been geared up in the district so that any dealers could not sell the OMS rice in black markets, he added.
