Barisal Division have a deficit of 273 runs against Khulna Division at the end of the second day of the second round encounter in the Tier-1 of the Walton National Cricket League (NCL) at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium (SANS) in Khulna yesterday. At the Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium, Chittagong Division piled on 419 for eight against Rajshahi Division rode on three half-centuries from Yasir Ali, Irfan Sukkur and Sajjadul Haque.
Elsewhere, at Bogra and Cox’s Bazar, both matches of Dhaka Division vs Rangpur Division and Dhaka Metro vs Sylhet Division have not rolled onto the ground due to the wet and soggy outfield condition. So the matches have been called off without a ball being bowled.
Khulna vs Barisal
The way Khulna Division started they could not then maintain the tempo on the second day as they finally could have scored 444. They added just 96 runs at the cost of the remaining seven wickets with overnight 348-3.
Mehedi Hasan, who produced a possibility of striking double century as the second batsman in the current league after his teammate Anamul Haque Bijoy, stopped his innings for 177. He lambasted 16 boundaries and two sixes in his patient 290-ball knock.
As soon as adding just 12 runs with overnight 165, Mehedi trudged back to the pavilion having leg before by Monir Hossain, who devastated Khulna’s innings single-handedly as he took all the rest of the seven wickets.
By removing Ziaur Rahman and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Monir created a possibility of hat-trick chance but finally it has not been made.
Mohammad Mithun (20), Nurul Hasan Sohan (33) and Moinul Islam (22 not out) were the contributors to Khulna’s healthy first innings total of 444.
Monir showcased his first class career best figures of 85-7. His previous best bowling performance was 6 for 27.
In reply, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza sent Barisal Division opener Abu Sayem back before opening their accounts. Therefore, pacer Al Amin Hossain dented the much havoc of Sylhet inning with his double strike while the visitors were stuttering at 13 for three.

Rafsan then attempted to steady the ship with fellow batsmen of Al Amin and Sohag Gazi but the duo fell in the space of six runs.
Later Rafsan partnered with Mohammad Nuruzzaman and slammed an invaluable 80 runs for the seventh wicket unbeaten stand before the end of the day. The duo made half centuries.
Rafsan was at stumps on 58, while Nuruzzaman was on 52 not out.
