Man arrrested for torturing wife in N’ganj

NARAYANGANJ: Locals caught three members of a family for torturing a housewife for dowry at Nischintapur area of the city on Friday noon, reports UNB.

The arrested were identified as victim’s husband Nayon Miah, 30, her mother-in-law Hawa Begum, 50, and brother-in-law Osman, 28.

Locals said Nayon married Tania Akhter, daughter of Abul Hossain of Zanjira in Shariatpur district, six months ago.

Since their marriage, he used to torture Tania for bringing Tk 1 lakh from her parents.

On Thursday night, Nayon tortured his wife and drove her out of the house. Later, he took Tania home after locals protested the incident. On Friday morning, Nayon, his parents and brother beat the housewife and cut her hair.

Hearing Tania’s screams, locals rescued her and caught Nayon, Hawa and Osman while Nayon’s father Jalal Sikdar managed to flee the scene.

Later, the angry mob gave them a good thrashing before handing them over to police, said Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Fatuulah Model Police Station.
