Yunnan is famous for its colourful clouds, which are amazingly changeable. Over the past three years, Li Zuliu, a 71-year-old amateur photographer, has succeeded in capturing beautiful clouds resembling the twelve Chinese zodiac animals, as well as some resembling other animals, in Daguan Park, Kunming.
The Chinese people have been associating zodiacal signs with the years of their birth as a traditional folk custom for centuries. The twelve zodiac animals include the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. In 2007, Li Zuliu began to take photographs in Daguan Park. On November 23, 2011, he was taking a picture of the sunset when he noticed a dragon-shaped cloud, which gave him the idea of capturing clouds resembling all of the Chinese zodiac signs. Ever since then, he has frequented Daguan Park and photographed the clouds. After three years, he finally completed his collection.
“Look, this is a lively rat with round ears, a long tail, a pointed mouth and two little feet. Small as it is, the rat is a very fertile animal, so it is ranked first among the twelve Chinese zodiacal animals,” said Mr. Li pointing at one of the cloud pictures that he had captured.
Li Zuliu’s cloud pictures cover a total of 28 animals, including not only the twelve Chinese zodiac animals but also unicorns, dinosaurs, sharks, goldfish, crocodiles and several others.
