Government grant-winning film
‘Khacha’ releasing today

‘Khacha’—a full-length feature film, which has received a grant from the government, is releasing in the several cinema halls of the country today. Based on a story against the backdrop of the British period, the film has been directed by Akram Khan and produced by Impress Telefilm.

Joya Ahsan, Chandni, Azad Abul Kalam, Arman Parvez Murad, Kayes Chowdhury, Mahbuba Rezanur, Sadika Rahman Raisa and Mamunur Rashid, among others, have enacted different roles in the film. Azad Abul Kalam has acted opposite Joya in the film, while veteran actors Mamunur Rashid and Kayes Chowdhury will be seen playing significant characters. In the story of the film, Hindu families from East Bengal move to India after the partition in 1947. Selling their houses and lands, the family of Ambujakkha wishes to set off to India. The Muslim families get refused by the family of Ambujakkha, when they want to purchase the property. Ambujakkha dreams that their socioeconomic condition will be improved as they will settle down in India. Despite all the adverse conditions, Sarojoni protects the family of Ambujakkha.

Azad Abul Kalam and Akram have written the screenplay for the film based on a story by Hasan Azizul Haque. Tanvir Khondokar is the cinematographer of the film and Binod Roy has directed the music, while singer Sagorika has lent her vocal to the playback of the film. A press conference was held yesterday at the office of Channel i in the capital on the occasion of the film’s release today.

‘Khacha’ is set to hit six cinema halls in the different parts of the country, including capital’s Star Cineplex. Five other halls are—Chhayabani (Mymensingh), Liberty Cineplex (Khulna), Mamotaz (Sirajganj), TK Cineplex (Sirajdikhan) and Kollol Cinema Hall (Madhupur).
