Man gets life term in rape case

A court in Chapainwabganj on Wednesday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for violating a mentally disabled girl.
The court also fined the convict Golam Kibria, 21, of Bholahat upazila, Tk one lakh, in default, to suffer three years more in rigorous imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, the convict violated a mentally disabled girl at his house on May 28 in 2016.
Victim’s father filed a case with Bholahat Police Station.
On October 31, 2016, police submitted chargesheet against him. After examining records and witnesses, Chapainawabganj Additional District and Sessions Judge Ziaur Rahman handed down the verdict.
Woman ‘kills self after killing daughter’ in Meherpur
Meherpur: A woman allegedly committed suicide after killing her 2-year old daughter at Kasba village of Gangni upazila in the district, reports UNB.
The deceased are identified as Aduri Khatun, 27, wife of Lokman Hossain of Gangni village in Alamdanga upazila and her daughter Samiha.
Police quoting Kanchan Mala, grandmother of Aduri, said hanged herself after drowning her daughter in a pond near their house. Aduri along with her child and husband went to her grandmother’s house in Kasba village few days back. She might have committed suicide following family feud, said officer-in-charge of Gangni Police Station Anwar Hossain.
The bodies were sent to Meherpur hospital for autopsy.
Two found dead in two dists

Police recovered the bodies of two people in Noakhali and Mymensingh districts yesterday.
In Noakhali, police recovered the body of a youth from
Batuabag village of Gopalpur union in Begumganj upazila this noon after two days of his missing.
Deceased Jahidul Islam, 19, was a brick mason, and son of Ruhul Amin, a resident of the same area.
On information, police rushed to the spot around 1 pm and recovered the body from a ditch of the area, said Sajedur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Begumganj police station.
Later, the body was sent to Noakhali General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
In Mymensingh, police recovered the body of an unidentified man from village Deo Madhyapara in Phulpur upazila of Mymensingh district yesterday morning. The identity of the victim, aged about 30 could not be known immediately.
Local people found the body lying at an open field at Deo Madhyapara around 10am and informed police.
On information, police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Ali Ahmed Mollah, officer-in-charge of Phulpur Police Station. The body bore no injury marks. The man might have been strangled by criminals, said the OC.
Two siblings die after drinking insecticide in Narsingdi
NARSINGDI: Two minor siblings died after drinking insecticide wrongly at their house at Karimpur Dakhinpara village in Sadar upazila of the district yesterday, reports BSS.
The victims were identified as Tawhid, 03, and his brother Jihad, 05. They were the sons of Aiat Ali of the village.
Family sources said the incident occurred at their house at about 8 am. They were admitted to the Narsingdi Sadar Hospital where the duty doctor declared them dead.
Rohingya persecution protested

Members of Jatiya Sramik Jote, labour wing of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) formed a human chain on Monihar Cinema Hall premises in Jessore protesting the killings of Rohingya in Myanmar.
Kamrul Islam, coordinator of Jatiya Sramik Jote, Jessore district unit chaired a rally during the human chain held yesterday morning. The rally was addressed, among others, by Syed Biplab Azad, general secretary, Jessore district unit JSD, Faruk Hossain, Moshiar Rahman and Kismat Ali. The speakers said Myanmar government must stop genocide on ethnic Rohingya Muslims and take them back to their own land immediately.
