Stalked by youth, girl ‘kills self’ in Gaibandha

Gaibandha: A schoolgirl allegedly committed suicide by taking pesticide after being assaulted by a youth at Idilpur in Sadullapur upazila on Wednesday, reports UNB. Sohel Mia used to stalk Ayesha Siddika, a class IX student of Madarhat Girls’ School and daughter of Mosta Mia, on her way to school from home, said Farhad Imrul Kayes, officer-in-charge of Sadullapur Police Station. On Tuesday, Sohel along with his 4-5 friends waylaid Ayesha and assaulted her physically when she refused his proposal of having an affair with him. The assault prompted Ayesha to take poison in the night. Later, she was taken to Palashbari Upazila Health Complex where doctors pronounced her dead. Police could not arrest Sohel and his associates as they went into hiding after the incident.
