Half-day strike in district for Saturday in protest

A Bogra court yesterday scraped bail to Bogra district unit president of BNP VP Saiful Islam and sent him to jail in two arson cases.  Additional Sessions Judge-1 Md Emdadul Haque passed the order after Saiful surrendered before the court seeking bail in the cases. Earlier in the day, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Shyam Sundar Roy granted him bail in the cases.

Protesting the court decision, the BNP announced a nine-day protest program, including a half-day hartal in the district for Saturday, said Joynal Abedin Chand, district unit secretary of the party.   

Seven cases were filed against Saiful with different police stations of the district during the BNP-led 20-party alliance's anti-government movement.  Earlier on September 17, Maftoon Ahmed Khan Rubel, Bogra sadar BNP president and joint secretary of Bogra district unit, was also sent to jail in arson cases.
