Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu yesterday called for cementing relations between Bangladesh and Malaysia in every possible sphere, including trade and business, for the mutual benefits of the common people in both the countries, reports BSS.
“The existing trade figure between Bangladesh and Malaysia will reach the height in the days ahead through closer bilateral trade and investment relations between the two countries,” he said.
The minister was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the “5th Showcase Malaysia 2017”, a single country three-day trade fair, at International Convention City, Bashundhara in the capital.
Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) organised the event in collaboration with the Malaysia High Commission in Dhaka and Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur and it is being supported by Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and Malaysia South-South Association (MASSA).
Mentioning Malaysia as one of the time-tested friends of Bangladesh, Amu said, the inherent reasons behind the strong bond of friendship are mainly based on religious, cultural, linguistic, ethnic, historical and social links existing between the peoples of both the countries.
“In our socio-economic development, Malaysia’s contribution is remarkable and so it goes with trade and commerce and there exists a very deep engagement between the two countries,” he added.
He said the steady diversification of relationships between Malaysia and Bangladesh has become a natural process and now. As the perils of recession are gradually fading away, it is imperative to bring Malaysia and Bangladesh even closer to harness the full potentials of economic relationships, he added.
Expecting the success of the three-day expo, the minister said, the exhibition would be able to create an opportunity for the Malaysian producers to exhibit quality products to the buyers and consumers of Bangladesh.
“This, in turn, will also help Malaysian exporters and investors to understand the potentials of the Bangladeshi market better and enhance the relocation of labor-intensive industries in our country,” he added.
Among others, Acting High Commissioner of Malaysia in Bangladesh Idham Zuhri Mohamed Yunus, BMCCI President Architect Md. Alamgir Jalil and Showcase Organizing Committee Chairman Syed Moazzam Hossain also spoke on the occasion.
