Bangladesh reached 295 for seven in 70 overs shortly after tea interval on the first day of the three-day warm-up game against Cricket South Africa Invitational XI in Benoni yesterday with most of the top order batsmen failing to make the start count.
Mominul Haque was the highest scorer with 68 while skipper Mushfiqur Rahim made 63 as they were unable to stretch the innings. Later Sabbir also contributed an unbeaten 54.
Electing to bat first in a seamer-friendly track, Bangladesh suffered a blow when Tamim Iqbal retired with a muscle pull after making just 5. Tamim began with a boundary, indicating to continue his imperious form but the injury cut short of what could have been a moral boosting knock.
His fellow opener Soumya Sarkar played some beautiful shots around the park, according to the BCB officials in South Africa and hinted to shrug off the patchy form that haunted him since the last one year.
Soumya hit eight boundaries in his 69 ball-43, before pacer Migeal Pretorius took him out. Imrul Kayes also hinted to leave behind the horror show against Australia at home, playing knock of 34 but he too failed to make the most use of it when it mattered most. Kayes and Soumya shared 84 runs before both of them got dismissed in the space of just eight runs.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominul Haque combined for a 119-run to get the side back on track and went smoothly for the coveted century before both of them were undone by Michael Cohen who actually was the wrecker-in-chief.
Mominul Haque was in attacking mode in his 73 ball-68, a knock consisted of nine boundaries.
Mushfiqur sent the ball across the rope eight times in his 63 off 85.
Onus was left on Mahmudullah Riyad to carry the side and force his inclusion in the first Test stronger after being dropped in the Test series against Sri Lanka and Australia. But Cohen gave him first ball-duck.
Cohen claimed four wickets for just 22 runs in 10 overs till filing of this report. Liton Das, who was recalled to national side after the home series with Australia, was also sent back to the pavilion before opening his account.
