Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon lashed out at Saber Hossain Chowdhury and Mubassher Hossain Chowdhury for making continuous conspiracy against the country’s cricket and stop the progress as it has been an upward spiral.
Former BCB president Saber Hossain Chowdhury termed the list of councilors in the line with the 2012 amendment constitution as illegal while former executive member Mubassher gave a legal notice, requesting the BCB’s present board of directors not to continue the office and hold any AGM following recent Supreme Court verdict regarding the matter.
When the matters were resolved by Supreme Court and board was preparing for the AGM, the BCB president found a conspiracy in the move of the duo.
“Two letters have come—one is from Saber Hossain MP and another is a legal notice. According to the notice, what they want is to give election in line with the constitution of 2008 and that they think is valid,” Papon said.
“First thing is that both of them (Saber and Mubassher) are not the councilor of 2008. If the 2008 constitution is considered then they won’t be considered for the election. Actually they haven’t any desire to come into the board or to direct the board. So why they did it,” Papon questioned.
“As I said earlier the constitution of 2008 is not approved by ICC. If we follow that, it will be the direct breach of ICC guideline. The incumbent Sri Lankan board president is the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament. ICC even didn’t allow him four months in the meeting. Sri Lanka has no representative in ICC. Their financial allowance and other packages were stopped. Then they were forced to give election in the light of ICC guideline after which they were allowed in ICC meeting.”
“So doing election in 2008 constitution means to breach the guideline of ICC. In one word we’ll be suspended from the ICC. Our cricket will be stopped. Our financial package will be stopped. So it’s clear as to why they want the election in line with 2008 constitution.”
The BCB EGM and AGM is due on September 30 and October 4th with Nazmul Hassan Papon’s four-year term coming to an end. A recent three-member Supreme Court bench had ordered the BCB to make a fresh constitutional draft that would replace the old framework from 2008. The BCB along with NSC had filed two petitions against a high court decision that called the board’s constitution illegal after the latter made amendments in 2012.
After the full verdict, the BCB formed a five-member committee comprising four directors and its chief executive officer to hold the meeting.
“The Supreme Court directed us to give election in the line with 2012 amended constitution. And we did election in that constitution. They didn’t take part in the election that time. But what is interesting is that Saber Hossain Chowdhury is the councilor of that constitution. If he terms the constitution as illegal why he became the councilor? He created a buzz by announcing that he will take part in the election but latter he didn’t do,” Papon said,
“As per the directive of Supreme Court we are valid because we were elected by the constitution of 2012. It was approved in ICC.
Now if any amendment is needed in line with the ICC’s directive, we can do it by calling an AGM. Then it will be sent to NSC for the approval. NSC can’t make any amendment. That’s the guideline. I didn’t see any loopholes in it.”
“There is a meeting in ICC on 10th in the next month which is very important. I’ll not be allowed in that meeting if everything is stopped. So this is pre-planned. They actually want the cricket to stop in the country. But by the grace of Allah, we have got unbelievable success in the last four months. The boys have been playing very good. I didn’t take any credit for that.”
“Saber Hossain Chowdhury earlier gave me a letter saying that why we didn’t do AGM. I have seen Mubassher in talk show shouting ‘they didn’t do AGM. So you see, it’s hypocrisy. I don’t like that. Now when we call AGM, they come forward to postpone it. So they have some other target what the mass people should know.
Bangladesh cricket is now going forward. I have still in the charge and I try my best to continue success. If some want to hinder it, I won’t tolerate. We are not doing anything illegal.”
