No dissent within coalition: Khaleda

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday held a meeting with top leaders of the 20-party alliance dispelling the remours of dissent within the coalition.
“The unity of the 20-party alliance is there and it will remain intact in the future. There is no scope to be confused” meeting sources said quoting the BNP chief as saying when some alliance leaders drew her attention to media reports and speculations about a possible split in the coalition.
At the meeting, which lasted for about one-and-a-half hours, alliance leaders reiterated that they would not take part in any election under a political government and it should be under a non-partisan administration.
On Jamaat’s existence in the alliance, Khaleda made it clear that “Jamaat is very much with us.”
The meeting of the coalition was held at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office after a recess of about eight months and only two days ahead of Khaleda’s London visit. The former premier is likely to leave for London on Friday for treatment.
There are speculations that Khaleda is going to London only days ahead of August 15 to avoid the controversial celebration of her birthday on the day.
Senior Awami League leaders have recently urged the BNP chief not to celebrate her birth anniversary on August 15, which is observed as the National Mourning Day and also the death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Sources said the meeting condemned the killing of blogger Niladri Niloy and held the government responsible for it.
Another leader said Khaleda Zia asked the alliance leaders to take preparation for a movement after reorganising their respective parties.
The outcome of the meeting will be disclosed at a press conference at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office at 11am today.
