President Abdul Hamid on Wednesday asked the university authorities to carry out research works in different fields maintaining similarity with the developed world, reports UNB.
The president came up with the call when two delegations of Islamic University and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) separately met him at Bangabhaban in the capital in the afternoon.
A delegation of Islamic University, led by its vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari, met the President at 3:30 pm while a SUST delegation, led by its vice-chancellor Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed, at 4:15 pm.
President's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters after the meetings.
Noting that a university is the highest centre of education, Hamid stressed the need for maintaining education-friendly atmosphere in the country's all universities.
The two VCs informed the president of the overall activities of their universities, including education, research and the progress of the ongoing projects.
