BNP senior leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy yesterday warned that the country will have to face a serious problem in the future if Rohingya refugees cannot be repatriated through diplomatic efforts, reports UNB.
“Though Rohingyas have been given shelter on humanitarian ground, we must put in efforts to have a permanent solution to the crisis and send them back home. Or else, it may turn into an unending problem for the country and its politics,” he said.
The BNP leader came up with the remarks while speaking at a discussion arranged by Democratic Council at the Jatiya Press Club.
Gayeshwar said the big powers that are giving Myanmar support and arms want Rohingyas to take shelter in Bangladesh as part of their evil design to destabilise the country.
He said the role of Russian, China and India over the Rohingya issue is 'negative' for the country as those countries are supporting Myanmar to protect their own interests.
Referring to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's comment that she does not expect any help from the USA to solve Rohingya crisis, Gayeshwar said no powerful country is actually supporting her in this regard.
The BNP leader said the government could not handle the Rohingya crisis for its week foreign policy.
He urged the government to take steps for forging a national unity alongside strengthening diplomatic efforts to tackle the problem and force Myanmar to take back its citizens.
