Rajarhat upazila administration set a rare example by planting seven lakh saplings in two hours in seven unions of the district recently, reports BSS.
“Sixty three types of saplings were planted at different spots, including 501 km roads, across the upazila simultaneously from 10 this morning,” Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rafikul Islam told BSS.
About 120,000 people of different walks of lives including 42,380 students and teachers from 218 educational institutions, participated the plantation programme from their respective areas, he also said.
Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Kaji Hasan Ahamed inaugurated the programme as the chief guest at Rajarhat helipad field in the morning.
Deputy Commissioner Abu Saleh Mohmmad Ferdous Khan, additional deputy commissioner Rafikul Islam, additional superintendent of police Minhajul Alam, upazila parishad chairman Abul Hasem and UNO Rafikul Islam were present on the occasion, among others.
Hasan Ahamed said, “We have taken the rare initiatives as there is no alternative of plantation to save the environment.”
He requested all to take care of the saplings as tree is the true friend of all.
