Chinese delegation meets DU VC
A three-member delegation led by Prof Wang Weidong Dean, faculty of Art and Design of Yunnan University, China, paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman at his office on Tuesday.
Other team members were Prof Dr Wu Yun and Wang Jingyu, said a press release.
Director of the Institute of Modern Languages of DU Prof Iffat Ara Nasreen Majid and Chinese Director of Confucius Institute of DU Dr Zhou Mingdong Mindy were present on the occasion, among others, the release added.
During the meeting, they discussed matters of mutual interest specially the possibilities of establishment of "Sino-Bangladesh Study Centre" at DU.
They also discussed the possibilities of strengthening the ongoing joint collaborative academic and research programmes on music, dance and fine arts being conducted by the DU and China Yunnan University, the release added.

JSPS team calls on UGC chairman
A-three member delegation from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), made a courtesy call on Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh at the latter’s office on Monday, says a press release.
Dr Makoto Takafuji, Associate Professor, Kumamoto University, Japan led the delegation. Dr Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, JSPS Post-Doctoral Fellow and Professor of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, University of Dhaka accompanied Takafuji.
During the meeting, they discussed matters related to academic and research collaboration and highlighted the JSPS/UGC joint research progress during the period of 2016.

Discussion on Abul Mansur Ahmad held at JU
A discussion titled “Abul Mansur Ahmad: Jiboner Shotto to Sotto” was held on the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus on Monday.
The Bangla Department of the university organised the programme at the seminar room of the department around 11am.  
Editor of Daily Star Mahfuz Anam addressed the function as the chief guest while eminent Poet Prof Khaled Hossain delivered a keynote speech.
Professor Dr Anurudho Kahaly, Professor Shamima Sultana and Associate Professor Khorshed Alam addressed the function, among others.

Graduation Day held at BSMRAU
The graduation day of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU) for the students of Bachelor of Science (Agriculture) 9th batch, Bachelor of Science (Fisheries) 5th batch, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine & Animal Science (DVM) 2nd batch and BS (Agricultural Economics) 1st batch was held on Tuesday at the university auditorium, says a press reelase. University Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Giashuddin Miah was present as chief guest.
The Vice-chancellor distributed a memento of the university and provisional certificate to the graduate students. He expressed congratulations to the newly graduate students and formally announced the result of BS (Agriculture), BS (Fisheries), DVM and BS (Agricultural Economics).

JU Teachers’ Association to help flood-hit people
SAVAR: Jahangirnagar University Teachers’ Association (JUTA) has decided to donate equivalent amount of one-day salary of all teachers to help flood affected people of northern and central part of Bangladesh.
JUTA president Professor Dr Farid Ahmed told BSS recently, “under the supervision of JUTA, we will collect equivalent amount of one-day salary from all the teachers of the university which will be spent to help the flood affected people”.
Meanwhile, JUTA condemned the oppression over Rohingya people by the Myanmar's military forces. Dr Farid said JUTA will form a human chain on September 17 on the central Shaheed Minar premises of the teachers of the university to protest against the oppression on Rohingya people by Myanmar's military forces.
The decision was made at an emergency general meeting of JUTA here yesterday, he added.

Advanced Training Workshop on Digital Library held at UGC
A day-long ‘Advanced Training Workshop on Digital Library’ was held at UGC auditorium on Wednesday, says a press release. University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh in association with Elsevier, a Netherland-based publishing house organised the workshop.
Professor Abdul Mannna, Chairman, UGC graced the function as the chief guest. Professor Dr Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Member, UGC spoke on the occasion as special guest. Professor Dr Md Akhtar Hossain, Member, UGC, presided over the programme. Dr. Md. Khaled, Secretary, UGC gave the welcome address.

Registration for JUAAM’s reunion starts
The registration process for the third reunion programme of Jahangirngar University Alumni Association of Mathematics (JUAAM) starts recently.
The chairman of the Mathematics department Professor Dr Sarif Uddin confirmed it.
“Our reunion will be held on December 8. We have started registration process in this regard recently that will continue till November 25”, he said.
The detailed information about the programme will be provided through the official website of the department www.juaam-math.org.
