Mufti Izhar shown arrested in ACC case

A Chittagong court yesterday granted the prayer fro showing Hefajat leader Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury arrested in a case filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).
Public Prosecutor Mesbah Uddin Chowdhury on Monday prayed to Chittagong Divisional Special Judge Mir Ruhul Amin for showing Mufti Izhar arrested.
The court granted the prayer of showing Mufti Izhar arrested after hearing. The charge against Mufti Izhar was read out as he was not present during the charge-framing. Two witnesses gave testimony, said Mesbah Uddin.
The ACC on July 4, 2013, issued a notice to Mufti Izhar for submitting his wealth statement on charge of illegally acquiring wealth.
However, Sirajul Haque, Deputy Assistant Director of ACC, Chittagong Zone, filed the case against Mufti Izhar as he did not comply with the order.
The Detective Branch of police on August 7 arrested Hefazat-e-Islam Nayeb-e-amir Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury from Jameyatul-Ulum-Al Islamia Madrassa in the citys Lalkhan Bazar area.
The Hefazat leader has been the prime suspect in the blast case which killed three students and injured several others at a dormitory room of Jameyatul-Ulum-Al Islamia Madrassa on October 7, 2013.
Even though the Madrassa authorities had tried to attribute the explosion to a laptop burst, the law enforcers recovered grenades, acid and a large quantity of explosives during a raid at the madrassa after the blast.
