SYLHET: The indefinite transport strike, which was enforced by the Sylhet Inter-district Bus Owners’ Association on Wednesday morning protesting the killing of a bus driver, eased on Wednesday afternoon, reports UNB.
The union enforced the strike across the district from Wednesday morning, but eased the programme from 4pm considering the hazards of commuters, president of the Association Selim Ahmed told UNB. Plying of all buses on the Sylhet-Dhaka route remained suspended till the afternoon due to the strike, cutting off the district from the capital. Earlier on Tuesday afternoon, the Association announced the strike at a press conference in protest of the killing of ‘Shyamoli Paribahan’ driver Shibu Chandra Deb. On Monday night, a number of passengers beat Shibu, a resident of Jaflong area in Goaighat upazila, to death at Sayedabad bus terminal in the capital at as his vehicle arrived at the terminal beyond the schedule.
