Chargesheet in 3 days: Minister
Law Minister Anisul Huq yesterday said police would submit a chargesheet in 72 hours in the case filed over the murder of
Samiul Islam Rajon, a 13-year-old boy who was tortured to death in Sylhet last month.
The law minister also said that there is no need to form a special tribunal to try the accused in the case.
The court can hold the trial proceedings against the accused under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, the law minister stated while talking to reporters after attending a program on unveiling the registration manual of the law ministry at Sonargaon hotel in the capital.
In response to a query, the minister said there is no legal bar to hold the trial of Rajon killing case in absentia of the main accused Kamrul Islam, who is now in the custody of Saudi Arabia police. We are trying to bring back Kamrul Islam to the country, he added.
Earlier, on July 23, the law minister had said the police would submit the chargesheet in the murder case, which gained attention worldwide, within three or four days.
The home minister has assured me that the chargesheet will be filed within three or four days, the law minister had said on that day.
He said the government would ensure exemplary punishment for the culprits so that nobody dares to commit such offences in the future.
On July 8, Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon was beaten to death in Sylhets Kumargaon area by some men who falsely accused the teen of stealing a van. The video of the brutal beating soon spread on social media platforms, triggering a massive outrage among the public.
Later, Rajons father filed a case in this connection and the police have so far arrested 13 accused.
