Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu yesterday asked the officials of Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) to ensure the highest transparency in the process of sugar import, reports BSS.
“The government has decided to import one lakh metric ton sugar to overcome the loss of recent flood and ensure uninterrupted supply of sugar,” he said while addressing as the chief guest at the Managing Director’s conference of the sugar mills at Chini Shilpa Bhaban in the capital, said a release.
Amu also called for using the profit from sugar import in the development of sugar industry. He said the government has taken an initiative to diversify the sugar mills like Keru and Company Sugar Mill and install modern technology in the mills to increase the production of sugar.
Among others, Additional Secretary of the Industries Ministry Sushen Chandra Das and BSFIC Chairman AKM Delwar Hossain spoke on the occasion.
