A boy and a woman were tortured mercilessly in Patuakhali. The boy, Sajib, 12, was tied to a tree and was tortured with a stick at Tungibaria village under Rangabali upazila of the district on Monday.
At one stage of the torture, Sajib lost his consciousness. Seeing his condition, one Zeba Begum protested the inhuman torture on the boy and tried to save him.
Enraged, the tormentor got hold of the woman and tortured her as well.
Later, the boy was taken to Galachipa Upazila Health Complex in a critical condition. The woman, however, was given first aid and released.
Being informed, Rangabali police arrested the accused, Wadud Hossain, 34, around 9:15pm on Tuesday.
Police and local sources said Sajib, son of Khalil Sarder of Nayavanguni village, had been working as a cowhand for one Abbas Chowdhury at Tungibaria village.
On Monday, while tending the cows, Sajib was chased by a buffalo owned by Wadud.
In self defence, Sajib beat the buffalo with a stick that enraged Wadud, who was close during the incident.
Infuriated, he got hold of Sajib, tied him with a tree, and started beating him.
Manir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Rangabali Police Station, said a case was filed against Wadud under section 341/323/307 of the penal code.
Meanwhile, a 13-year-old victim Rajon, died from excruciating torture in Sylhet. Rakib, a child labour at a local garage workshop in Khulna, was tortured that eventually led to his death – air pumped into his body through his rectum just because he switched his workplace.
Another boy, after Rajan and Rakib, was killed by the brutal torture of an alleged neighbour in Taltoli upazila of Barguna.
