Transparency International, Bangladesh (TIB) yesterday held a rally to observe International Youth Day in the capital with a two-day youth festival to mobilise them in the fight against corruption taking a vow to stand up against it.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the rally from TSC of the university hoping that the country’s youth would participate in the fight against corruption as they did in the 1971 joining the Liberation War at the call of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
It was attended by chairperson of the TIB board of trustees Advocate Sultana Kamal and its executive director Dr Iftekharuzzaman. Sultana Kamal noted that they want the country should be run under the honest and capable persons. Dr Iftekharuzzaman observed the country’s politics deserves reforms. He said, most of our parliament members are involved in business. “There is nothing wrong with the businesspersons coming to politics. But the process through which they are joining the politics are not proper for which the parliament cannot function,” the TIB executive director opined.
A day long fair was arranged at the Bangla Academy in connection with the youth day which was participated by 27 organisations. A video containing the Bangabandhu’s speech against corruption was shown in the fair. On the second day of the TIB programme, an anti-corruption cultural function will be held at Dhanmondi Rabindra Sarobor open air sage at 4pm today, said a TIB release.
