Six killed in road accidents

Six people were killed in separate road accidents in Munshiganj, Sirajganj and Chapainawabganj districts yesterday.
Our Munshiganj correspondent reports: Four people were killed and three others injured when a pick-up van overturned on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Anarpura in Gazaria upazila yesterday.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Hedayetul Ullah, officer-in charge of Gazaria police station, said the accident took place at Anarpura around 3.30pm when a speeding Comilla-bound pick-up van overturned after colliding with the divider on the road, leaving its four passengers dead on the spot and three others injured.
The injured, including the driver of the pick-up van, were first taken to Bhaberchar Health Complex but later they were shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital as their condition deteriorated.
On information, police rushed in and recovered the bodies.
Traffic movement on the busy highway remained halted following the accident, said the OC.
In Sirajganj: A security guard of Bangabandhu Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge was run over by a speeding truck on the Dhaka-Bonpara highway at Soydabad yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as Faridul Islam Helal, 50, of Sarotia village in sadar upazila.
Helal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Jamuna Bridge (West), said the accident took place at 5.45 am, when a Dhaka bound speeding truck hit Faridul while he was performing duty, killing him dead on the spot.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Sirajganj sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.
Our Chapainawabganj correspondent says: A child was killed after being hit by an auto-rickshaw at Sukandighi village in Chapainawabganj sadar upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as Shihab, 9, son of Sher Mohammad of the aforesaid area.
Officer-in-Charge of Chapainawab­ganj sadar police Khandaker Golam Mortuja said an auto-rickshaw hit Shihab at about 9 am when he was crossing a road, leaving him injured critically.
He succumbed to his injuries on the way to Chapainawabganj sadar hospital.
