BCL man killed over factional feud

An activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was murdered following a factional feud at Madan Mohan College in Sylhet yesterday.
The deceased, Abdul Ali, was a student of Class XII of the college and a member of the Chhatra League faction called Kashmir group led by Bidhan Kumar Saha.
Police said they have arrested one Pronojit Das, a second year student of accounts of the same college, in this connection. The victim’s classmates said trouble had first erupted on Tuesday following an argument between Ali and fellow faction members over seating arrangements on the campus. The next day around noon, a group of BCL members accosted Ali on the second floor of Mohini Mohan building in the college and stabbed him.
MM College principal Dr Abul Foteh Fattah told The Independent: “We immediately took Ali to Osmani Medical College Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries around 2.40 pm. The college administration is helping police to arrest the assailants.”
The victim’s father, Aklis Miah, said the left side of Ali’s heart was severely damaged in the stabbing incident. Ali was given 10 units of blood at the hospital, but the doctors could not save him, he added.
Assistant police commissioner (Sylhet) AKM Sajjadul Alam said: “A police team visited the spot after hearing that a BCL activist was killed on MM College campus. Later, the police arrested Pronojit Das, a BCL member, for the incident. The accused was caught from a confectionary shop at Chandipul in South Surma upazila area.”
On the other hand, BCL’s Sylhet unit leaders claimed that there was no involvement of Chhatra League in the murder and that Ali was killed over a personal dispute.
