Government has formed a draft telecommunications policy to ensure customer security, quality service and investment-friendly environment.
To take opinions of the subscribers on this draft policy the Post and Telecom Department will be uploading the policy on its website today (Thursday). The opinions on this draft policy will be taken till 20th of this month. Then after some consultation the ultimate work on this policy will start.
“We want to plan the telecommunications policy in such a way so that people who have taken licence for the pertinent business would be able to give the best service to the customers. So that people do not feel cheated. The telecom operators should commit something only if they can provide that service to the people” said an official of the Post and Telecom Department.
Yesterday, the second round of consultation on the draft policy was launched where joint secretary Husnul Mahmud khan presided over the meeting.
Husnul Mahmud khan said that he wants the policy to stand for at least ten years. Now they are planning on a time befitting policy that will focus on satellite, digital broadcasting and network topology.
It’s been stated in the draft policy on how to broaden the technology which will help more people to get work.
“We want to ensure that the policy focuses on gender equality, local investment and security on foreign investment so that foreign investors do not feel any kind of hesitation while investing,” Joint Secretary Khan.
According to the draft policy, there will be no toll on network calls; telecom service will be free when people are in disaster and also strengthening Teletalk and BTCL resulting in increasing of numbers of subscribers.
Though awareness of the trade neutrality is there but necessity for better service for the customers is a must. For that, necessary steps are being taken. Cyber space crime and national security are also the other objectives, added Joint Secretary Husnul Mahmud khan.
