Two war crimes accused and four cops were injured as a prison van collided head on with a bus on Dhaka-Mymensing highway in front of Bhawal National park at Rajendrapur in Gazipur yesterday morning.
The two war crime accused were identified as Amjad Hossain, 85, and Riaz Uddin Fakir, 78. The injured policemen are prison van driver Constable Mehedi, 32, Constable Habilder Nur Uddin, 35, Nayek Mostafiz, 38 and Constable Wasim, 32.
Sub-inspector of Naojure highway police out post Kawsar Ahmed said a Netrakona-bound bus from Dhaka collided head-on with the prison van in the area around 8:00 am, leaving two war crimes accused and four policemen injured.
The war crimes accused were being taken to Dhaka by the prison van to be produced before the International Crimes Tribunal.
On information, highway police rushed to the spot and rescued the injured from the spot and sent them to Tongi Government Hospital.
Duty doctor of the hospital Mohammed Masud Rana said that seriously injured Amjad Hossain and Naik Mostafiz were shifted to Dhaka Medical college hospital.
Amjad Hossain and Riaz Uddin Fakir were arrested on Tuesday from Keshorgonj and Bhalukjan village of Fulbaria upazila in Mymensingh district after issued arrest warrants from International War Crimes Tribunal for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity.
