Parliament yesterday passed the ‘Acquisition and Requisition of Immovable Property Bill, 2017’ raising the compensation against land value by three times, reports UNB.
Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif moved the bill in the House after Maghrib recess. The bill was passed by a voice vote.
The bill will annul the exiting ‘Acquisition and Requisition of Immovable Property Ordinance, 1982.
According to the bill, the affected persons will get additional 200 per cent compensation of the present market price of land in case of acquiring it for any government organisation, while additional 300 per cent compensation in case of acquiring land for any private organisation.
The affected persons will also be provided 100 per cent compensation against damages to crops and trees or any other damage.
The bill increased the compensation for the affected people as the previous law lacked the provisions of providing rational return to the persons affected by the acquisition.
In July 2017, the bill was placed in the House and sent to the respective parliamentary standing committee for further scrutiny.
The Cabinet in December 2016 approved in principle the draft of the Acquisition and Requisition of Immovable Property Bill 2017.
