NARAYANGANJ: Hectic preparation is underway for completing the making of multi-colored icons of Goddess Durga to celebrate the up-coming five-day long biggest religious festival of the Hindu community Durga Puja which begins here and across the country from on 26 September with pomp and grandeur.
Narayanganj District unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad sources said, several hundred pottery artists and idol makers have been passing busy time in different puja mandaps round the clock for making glittering idols with pigments.
Giving description of the idols the artists said, the images of goddess Durga has ten hands, she holds different weapons in her hands. She has two daughters Lakshmi and Saraswati. They stand on the right and left side of the Goddess Durga. She has two sons also. One is Ganesh and other is Kartik. All these gods and goddesses will be worshipped along with Durga.
District administration sources said a total of 192 puja mandaps have been set up in five upazilas of the district this year.
The upazila wise break-up of puja mandaps are- Narayanganj sadar upazila-68, Bandar upazila-25, Sonargaon upazila-31, Rupganj upazila -41 and Araihazar upazila -27. The Bijoya Dashami, the immersion of the idols of Goddess Durga will take place on September 30.
Police super Moinul Haq and Deputy commissioner Rabbi Miah in a meeting with the leaders of Narayanganj District Puja Udjapon Parishad and representatives of puja mandaps of the district held in the conference hall of DC recently gave assurance of uninterrupted power supply in the puja mandaps and special security measure to be taken for peaceful celebration.
