Police at ease over security for religious festivals

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah on Wednesday said there is no need to worry over security for the upcoming processions of Durga Puja and Ashura, as the administration including police are by now experienced enough and capable of providing foolproof security during the two religious festivals, reports UNB.

The DMP Commissioner came up with the remark during a coordination meeting on the subject (security for the festivals) held at the DMP headquarters with him in the chair.

Senior officials of DMP, RAB, and other intelligence agencies as well as stakeholders, including both the two Dhaka city corporations, representatives of Holy Ashura Procession celebration committee, Bangladesh Durgapuja Udjapan Committee and Dhaka Mohanagar Puja Udjapan Committee attended the coordination meeting.

About celebration of Durga Puja, the DMP Commissioner said a control room will be set up at Dhakeshwari Temple, from where security at all of the Puja mandops in the capital will be monitored. Besides, strict security measures will also be given to ensure peaceful celebration of the Holy Ashura, particularly during the tazia procession, the DMP Commissioner said.

He said instructions have already given to the concerned Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Officer-in-charges (OCs) under the DMP to form security committee, comprising local people in every puja mandaps.

He requested Puja Udjapan Committees to start their procession with idols for immersion in the rivers, the closing act of the festival, on the day by 3pm and it should be completed by 8pm.
