200 illegal gas lines disconnected

Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited, Gazipur zonal office disconnected more than 200 illegal gas lines of a residential area at North Harinal   of the city yesterday.

These lines were disconnected with the help of Gazipur district administration. A team of Titas gas authorities conducted a raid and also a mobile court in the area  led by executive magistrate Rabeya Parvez from morning till evening.

Manager of Titas gas transmission and distribution company Gazipur zonal office  engineer Sabber Ahmed said more than one hundred house owners have been using gas since 3 years with illegal gas connection. On secret information, Titas authorities conducted the raid and disconnected all of illegal lines. He said more than 200 lines of 100 houses of the areas were disconnected and seized 200 wovens and about 300 meters of  two inches diameter pipes  used  to connect those illegal lines. Sensing the presence of mobile court, most of the users of the area  fled away from their houses. But one Abdur Razzak Master of the area was allegedly arrested  from his house for using illegal gas.

 General manager of the Titas gas transmission and distribution company Gazipur zonal office engineer SM Abdul Wadud, manager engineer Sabber Ahmed Chowdhury and engineer Jahangir Alam, deputy manager engineer Sabiul Awal, engineer Khurshed Alam,   assistant engineer Mirza Mohammed Mamunur Rahman and Abu Ayub and sub-assistant engineer Mohammed Rezaaul Haque were present during the mobile court.

Sheikh Mohammed Riazul Islam, a resident of the area and others local people claimed that a contractor of the Titas office named Mohammed Farid influenced the locals to take illegal connection and took Tk 70-80 thousand from each of the people for connection a line. Locals also claimed that Mohammed Farid takes Tk 500 in every month from each of the house owner till now. On the otherhand, manager of the Titas gas engineer Sabber Ahmed said that his licence was suspended and filed several cases against him. He was also black listed in the Titas office.
