Minister warns against illegal dredging, housing

Food Minister Advocate Qamrul Islam yesterday warned against any kinds of illegal dredging and housing in Keraniganj area, asking the authorities concerned to look into the matters properly, reports BSS.

“We will not let any illegal dredging machine to run anywhere in Keraniganj. Authorities should investigate whether the people, who are running these dredging machines following permission from BIWTA, have taken the authorisation properly. We are also seeing housing projects in the area, which are being raised overnight. We should investigate whether they have received permission from the proper authorities,” he said.

The minister came up with the observations while addressing a view exchange meeting with the officials under Keraniganj upazila parishad and UP chairmen.

Organized by Keraniganj upazila parishad, the meeting was addressed by Keraniganj upazila nirbahi officer Shahe Elid Mainul Amin, upazila engineer Md Shahjahan Ali, upazila project implementation officer Md Shahidul Islam, agriculture officer Md Fakhrul Alam, education officer Mazeda Sultana, social welfare officer Md Fakhrul Ashraf, women affairs officer Mahmuda Manna, Shakta upazila chairman Md Salauddin Liton and Taranagar upazila chairman Mosharraf Hossain Faruk, among others.

Upazila Awami League convener Shahin Ahmed attended the meeting as special guest.
