Champaka Ramanayake who has been overseeing the Bangladesh’s fast bowlers said he is impressed by the quality of the young pace bowlers of the country and expected some of them to break the national team very soon.
Ramanayake currently has been working with Under-19 bowlers to get them ready for the Youth World Cup in the next year.
“I’ve been working with them last 5-6 days and I'm quite impressed. We have got some good bowlers,” he said. “There are five bowlers I am looking at the moment. And till they go to Sylhet, on the 18th or 19th, I'm quite pleased with them and I'm trying to improve them. There is a lot of improvement to be done and it takes time, but at least we have another 3-4 months before the World Cup so I'm trying to help them wherever I can.”
He said he tries to teach them how to give yorker accurately as it has been the great weapon these days to stem the run flow at the death.
“Because they are getting ready for the World Cup in January and before that they have got two tournaments -- Afghanistan and the Asia Cup. So it's good to be prepared here before they go for the competition and I'm trying to get the yorkers perfect because you need that length to bowl in the death overs in the World Cup,” he thought.
“And if we can improve these guys and at least three bowlers can do that [bowl yorkers] then you have a good chance to do that [bowl well at the death]. But for that you need a lot of practice, not one day. One day is not enough so I've been doing it for the past three days. Every day they have been doing a few yorkers and trying to get their accuracy right. And hopefully we have a few more months before the world cup so we'll keep doing this.”
Although he identified some of the bowlers as special talent, he didn’t single out the name of anyone.
“I don't want to mention any names because others will get upset. They are all young but there are some impressive bowlers there as well and if they keep working hard they will improve.”
About also working with HP, he said, “I joined the HP a week before they went to the UK and there are two or three very good bowlers and I'm very pleased with that.
