An activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was allegedly stabbed dead by opponents at Lamapara in Shibganj of Sylhet yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Jakaria Md Masum, 22, an activist of BCL Surma group, reports UNB.
Some BCL activists of BCL general secretary Raihan Chowdhury's group called on Masum after detaining his younger brother over a dispute with Surma group. When Masum went there they attacked him indiscriminately with sharp weapons leaving him critically injured, said BCL Surma group leader Biplab.
Later, Masum was taken to the MAG Osmani Medical College where the doctors declared him dead, he added.
However, Raihan Chowdhury denied the allegation saying that, there is no group in his name and he is being intentionally linked with this incident.
Confirming the fact, Additional Deputy Police Commissioner (Media) of Sylhet Md Zidal Al Musa said that several stab wounds were found on Masum's legs.
