At least 10 shops and a residential hotel were gutted by a devastating fire at a market in the district town here early yesterday.
Assistant deputy director of Fire Service and Civil Defense of Kurigram Sirajul Islam Tarafdar said the fire broke out at an outlet of ‘Aarong’ at Sagor Shopping Complex around 4:30 am and soon engulfed nine other adjoining shops and a residential hotel.
On information, four firefighting units rushed in and doused the flame after three hours of frantic efforts.
The extent of loss could not be assessed immediately, said fire service sources.
Rawshan Ali Rintu, general secretary of the Market Traders’ Associa-tion, claimed the fire caused losses of Tk three crores.
