The customs intelligence (CI) alone seized 623 kilograms of gold and arrested 21 persons from different parts of the country including three airports in the last one year, reports BSS.
“We have arrested 21 persons and seized 623 kgs of gold from three international airports and different parts of the country in the last one year,” director general (DG) Dr. Mainul Khan of the customs intelligence said.
The estimated value of the seized gold is Taka 304.63 crore, he also said. Asked about update relating to the cases of gold smuggling, he said, “Charge sheets in most of the cases have already been submitted before the courts and trial of those cases are going on.” The CI chief gave full credit to their well-planned measures including strengthened intelligence surveillance across the country for seizure of huge quantity of gold and rounded up 21 culprits involved in the misdeeds.
He said, the customs intelligence officials have been adopting new strategies with the changing trends of crimes to stop tax evasion, smugglings of gold, currency, drugs and firearms.
