Chairman of Kochua upazila Md Shajahan Shishir has undertaken a noble initiative to plant 62,000 saplings under `National Tree Plantation’ programme to set up a model and inspire the chairmen of other upazilas in the district.
An amount of Tk 5 lakhs has been allocated from the Upazila Parishad fund for implementing the program-me.
The saplings of fruit bearing trees, timber and medicinal plants will be planted.
The distribution of saplings started from Saturday last.
These are being distributed among the government and non-government offices, teachers and students of the schools, colleges, madrasas and religious institutions in Kochua upazila.
Till yesterday, over 50,000 saplings were distributed among 60 educational and 25 religious institutions in the upazila.
The distribution work will be completed by today and all the saplings will be planted on the premises of the different schools, colleges, madrasas, religious institutions, government and non-government offices, and beside the roads today, said the chairman.
Arrangements will be made to protect the saplings from destruction.
